Once a postal hub and now a market, bar and cafe, Tiny Grocer occupies a functional yet welcoming space in Austin’s Hyde Park.
Design studio Side Angle Side led the adaptive reuse project, turning what was historically used as a loading bay into a garden and patio and filling the warehouse-style building with shelves and furniture chosen to complement existing features.
The original joists and concrete floor have been left untouched, although their utilitarian appearance is softened by the addition of bright green shelves, caramel leather banquettes and wooden dining furniture.
Guests can stop by for a meal at Tiny Grocer’s restaurant, Bureau de Poste – which has a distinctly retro ambience – or shop for tasty morsels at Tiny Delicatessen.
